As difficult as it is to accept, challenges and obstacles are crucial parts of life that we simply must go through to shape and sharpen our character.
Keep believing that you have what it takes within you to go through this momentary “lack of luck”.
In the meantime, keep your head up high and have a listen to this playlist mix of inspiring hits that remind us that there’s always a light at the end of the tunnel. Enjoy!
Bad Day – Daniel Powter
This song is an obvious choice seeing the title of this post is a line taken straight from it.
Though the lyrics doesn’t quite set out to encourage us to look at the bright side of life, it’s incredibly catchy tune makes the experience of going through a bad day like a breezy walk in the park.
Bad days will always show up in our lives, what matters is how we respond to it when it does come our way.
“Cause you had a bad day, you’re taking one down, You sing a sad song just to turn it around.”
I’m Still Standing – Elton John
With a determined, upbeat tempo, this is a classic survivor song. It demands to those who have ever been underestimated and pushed around to stay strong no matter what anyone says or does to try to knock them down.
“Don’t you know I’m still standing better than I ever did
Looking like a true survivor, feeling like a little kid
I’m still standing after all this time”
The Dog Days are Over – Florence and the Machine
Florence Welch has a knack of making each lyrics to the band’s song so utterly moving that it transports us to another world and this song is no exception.
It offers us a glimpse as to the glorious sight of what it will feel like to finally reach that light at end of the tunnel.
“Happiness hit her like a train on a track. Coming towards her stuck still no turning back. The dog days are over…The dog days are done”
Love Alone is Worth the Fight – Switchfoot
I’m a huge fan of Switchfoot – their songs have always been infused with hope that encourages us to find out what we’re truly made of in the midst of adversity.
This particular triumphant song challenges us to courageously face our fears, step out of our comfort zones in order to live the life that we’ve always imagined.
“And we find what we’re made of…Through the open door…Is it fear you’re afraid of? What are you waiting for?”
I’ll Be There For You (FRIENDS theme song) – The Rembrants
This is probably hands down the quirkiest song on going through hard times out there.
And thanks to the fact that it’s the theme song of one of the most celebrated TV show of all times, we’ve heard it enough to be able to hum along to it.
Its upbeat tempo makes what should be its downright depressing lyrics sounds like Katrina and The Wave’s “Walking on Sunshine“.
It reminds us that even when our life seems like a joke and we’re flat out broke, if we are fortunate enough to have people we can depend on, we can get through anything.
” It’s like you’re always stuck in second gear,
When it hasn’t been your day your week your month, or even your year,
I’ll be there for you, (when the rain starts to fall)
I’ll be there for you..”
Shake It Out – Florence and the Machine
Need a song that has the power to make you feel triumphant? Well, look no more because this haunting, yet beautiful “Fight” song has the ability to instantly connect with your inner strength that might just allow you to find the courage to keep going.
After all, it’s always the darkest before dawn..
“And every demon wants his pound of flesh. But I like to keep some things to myself. I like to keep my issues strong. It’s always darkest before the dawn..”
Everybody Hurts – R.E.M
Feeling like you’re alone in your struggles? Rest assured that you’re not. This ultimate classic never fails to tug at the heart strings.
As the title suggests, this beautiful song reminds us that we – no matter where we’re from – all hurt sometimes. And more importantly, we all have the strength to go through whatever it is that we’re faced with if we continue to refuse to give up.
“when the day is long, and the night feels like yours alone.. when you feel like you’ve had enough of this life.. just hang on.. you’re not alone..”
Hero – Mariah Carey
Anyone who is going through difficult circumstances ought to have this classic gem on repeat. The song’s soulful lyrics is riddled with powerful emotions that inspires you to look within to find the strength you need to persevere and get through challenging times.
No matter how hard it gets, we always have the power to stay strong, prevail and in the process, find a hero within ourselves.
“With the strength to carry on. And you cast your fears aside. ‘Cause you know you can survive. So when you feel like hope is gone, look inside you and be strong. And you’ll finally see the truth, that a hero lies in you”
I can see clearly now – Jimmy Cliff
I believe that sometimes we need to go through challenging times for us to truly appreciate how good life already was. This timeless classic is not only catchy, its message withstand the test of time.
It truly illustrates that nothing lasts forever and that in time, we will be able to look back fondly at the silver linings of the adversities we faced and be grateful for they were blessings in disguise. So keep going and have faith that a bright sunshinin’ day is just around the corner.
“I can see clearly now the rain is gone. I can see all obstacles in my way.
Here’s the rainbow I’ve been praying for. It’s gonna be a bright (bright) bright (bright) sunshinin’ day”
