The “Thank You” Playlist

“Cultivate the habit of being grateful for every good thing that comes to you, and to give thanks continuously. And because all things have contributed to your advancement, you should include all things in your gratitude.” Ralph Waldo Emerson

With Thanksgiving just around the corner, it’s time to “resurrect” a playlist that I started sharing nearly a year go. Though Thanksgiving is  renowned for being the ultimate day of gratitude,  I thoroughly believe that an all year round practice of gratitude for all of life’s blessings is essential in creating a happy and fulfilled life.

We may not always acknowledge it, but all experiences – whether we decide to label it as “good” or “bad” happen FOR us rather than TO us. Through life’s ups and downs, both good and bad experiences we have faced in the past or may be currently facing, have plenty to teach us if we remain open to the lessons to be learned from it all.

It is my hope this selection of “Thank You” songs will help to make this year’s Thanksgiving an extra special one for you and your loved ones. Most importantly, I hope that they’ll inspire you to have a regular reflection on all the things and people you are thankful for. May your gratitude attracts even more abundance to your life!

Thank You for Being a Friend – Andrew Gold

For those of you who grew up watching one of the most iconic sitcom of all time, “The Golden Girls”,  this celebrated theme song is one you’ll be happy to hum or sing along to – especially at times when you find yourself surrounded with your closest, dearest friends. This song reminds us how important it is to let our friends how much we appreciate them being in our lives. True friendships are real gems that are never to be taken for granted.

“And if you threw a party, invited everyone you ever knew
You would see the biggest gift would be from me
And the card attached would say thank you for being a friend.”

Thank You for a Life – Kris Kristofferson

This genuine hearted song reads like a well written thank you note set to music. It is infused with gratitude for beauty, joy, and happiness to be found all around us – if we choose to take the time to acknowledge and bask in the great glory that is our lives.

“Thank you for a life that I’d call happy. You know I am grateful for the freedom and the chances. And every little piece of sweetness that I’ve known. And I am grateful for the justice and the mercy. And all the truth and beauty, I’ve been shown.”

Thank You – Dido

This soulful track effortlessly capture the feeling of immense gratitude we feel for that special person – be it a spouse, a parent, a sibling or a dear friend – who has always been there for us through the thick and thin of life. No matter what difficult circumstance we are faced with, just their mere presence make all is alright with the world.

“And even if my house falls down now, I wouldn’t have a clue
Because you’re near me. And, oh oh, just to be with you – is having the best day of my life.”

Thank You for the Music – Abba

What would life be without music ? Personally, i think that would be nothing short of unimaginable. Music is certainly a gift that we should not forget to express “Thank You” for, fortunately for us, ABBA created this uplifting reminder that music is certainly something to be grateful for.

“Thank you for the music, the songs I’m singing. Thanks for all the joy they’re bringing. Who can live without it, I ask in all honesty?
What would life be? Without a song or a dance what are we? “

Thank You – Jamelia

Though we generally tend to express gratitude for the wonderful people in our lives, this song illustrates that it’s just as important to express our gratitude to those who are no longer in our lives as everyone comes into our lives for a reason – whether it is to serve some sort of purpose, teach you a lesson, or help you grow and become the strong person you are today.

“Yeah, you taught me some lessons. Those are my blessings.
That won’t happen again. Thank you. “

Gratitude – Earth, Wind & Fire

Written and released in the 70’s, through this song the soul supergroup perfectly captures the essence of peace and love – flower power. This funky tune will remind you what  a precious gift it is just to be alive.

“Wanna thank you, Wanna thank youFreedom in stride, love, peace of mindWe just wanna give Gratitude”

Thank You for Loving Me – Bon Jovi

They say the greatest gift of all is to love and to be loved in return – hence should we are fortunate enough to have true love in our lives, we must do our best to never take it for granted and do what we can – as often as possible – to let our love know how much we appreciate them. If you happen to be in the look out for a song to express just how much they mean to you, this classic powerhouse ballad may just do the trick.

“Thank you for loving me. For being my eyes when I couldn’t see. pick me up when I fall down. You ring the bell before they count me out – If I was drowning you would part the sea. And risk your own life to rescue me. “
