Sleep Junkies

I’m a huge proponent of sleep and I ‘guard’ my sleep like my life depends on it – because I truly believe that it does. I experienced firsthand just how detrimental sustained sleep deprivation can be.

And as it turns out, there are plenty of people like me who consider themselves ‘sleep junkies’ (Arianna Huffington included).

This site is an homage to sleep and covers everything from the benefits of restful slumber, tips & tricks to better sleep, and pretty much everything related to the topic of snoozing. Here, you’ll not only find written content (articles, resources, etc.), but you also have access to their podcasts done by sleep aficionados (most of whom are medical/certified professionals) from around the globe.

Yoga with Adriene

There’s a LOT of yoga teachers/influencers out there, and there are plenty of reasons why Yoga with Adriene is at the top of the heap!  For starters, the founder, Adrien Mishler, has a personality that shines through each of her yoga tutorials. She’s warm, patient, and an all-around great yoga teacher. While she has been popular for years now, her YouTube channel ‘exploded’ during the pandemic. With the closures of gyms and fitness centers around the globe, many were seeking a convenient way to stay physically active – and yoga fits the bill.

That’s where Adriene comes to save the day. Offering a myriad of yoga tutorials for beginners, she also has videos of more challenging sequences for intermediate & advanced practitioners to tackle.

Feel Good Foodie

Despite all the challenges that comes with the pandemic, I was able to ‘thrive’ during 2020 and a big part of it is that I decided to commit to making healthier choices. While making a lifestyle change is not something new to me, the challenging part is actually sticking to it. What made last year’s decision different than the years prior was that I was also committed to keeping them for life.

Making healthier food choices is integral to living a healthier lifestyle and feel good foodie is one of my favorite sources for easy yet delicious food & beverages recipes. On the site, you’ll also find simple tutorials, tips, tricks, and techniques you’ll need to whip up scrumptious dishes that you’ll be more than happy to dig into every day!

With a simple yet ‘effective’ tag line ‘simple wisdom for complex lives’, Tiny Buddha is  about reflecting on simple wisdom and learning new ways to apply it to our complex lives—complete with responsibilities, struggles, dreams, and relationships.

APPS

Chopra

Meditation is one of my all-time favorite self-care practices and Chopra, an app created by Deepak Chopra, makes it easy to maintain a daily practice even when life gets super hectic.

What’s particularly wonderful about Chopra, a meditation & wellbeing app, that it’s dynamic and constantly updated with guided meditations that reflect the current circumstances. For example, during the US election last year, they had a specific set of meditation for it.

Deepak also hosts special 21- Day meditation challenges which he hosts with influential people such as Oprah Winfrey & Alicia Keys.

The app offers free meditations but in order to access their full offerings, a subscription is required.

Ritual

Need professional guidance & support to navigate the challenges you face in your romantic relationship? If the thought of having to go to ‘conventional’ couples therapy makes you and/or partner cringe, Ritual, an app that helps you heal and turn relationship crisis into opportunity, may just be the ideal solution.

Driven by globally renowned therapist, Ritual creates tailored programs using proven interventions so you can feel seen and understood, break the cycles in your relationship and avoid emergency situations.

All done virtually, it’s designed to remove barriers like cost, tight schedules, and partner participation. Ritual does this through scientifically validated methods, supported by the most up-to-date research.

You & your partner will go through short yet effective real-time (private) sessions and will be able to do the rest of the work individually while equipped with personalized content to help you progress in your relationship goals.

Whether you’re finding it difficult to communicate with your partner, working through conflicts, or questioning whether you’re in the right relationship, Ritual’s dedicated experts can help you to figure out simple steps to resolve your issues, track your progress, and offer on going support.

If you’re not yet sold on Ritual, there’s no need to worry, Ritual offers 14-day money back guarantee so you & partner can give it a try with no strings attached. Plus, if you sign up via our special link,  you’ll be able to get 20% off!

What’s Up?

Not to be mistaken with Whatsapp,  What’s Up? is a wonderful (free) app utilizing some of the best CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) and ACT (Acceptance Commitment Therapy) methods to help you cope with various mental health ‘issues’ such as anxiety, burnout, and depression.

Its interface is sleek & clean – coupled with simple instructions, even if it’s your first time using the app, you’ll be able to navigate through the app to get to what you’re looking for with ease.

Noom

If you’re into wellness & nutrition, chances are, you’ve heard of Noom. This app that aims ‘to make the world a healthier place’ is wildly popular.

Been wanting to lose that extra weight or become fitter overall? Noom doesn’t ‘believe’ in diets, instead, they advocate lifestyle changes through the psychology of food and our behavior toward it.

On the app, you can access 1:1 health coaching, health quizzes, and articles to motivate you plus you can track your exercise, weight, blood sugar, and blood pressure.

BeALooper

Founded in 2017 by Amanda Johnstone, Be A Looper is a social-support app that allows you to easily check in with up to five people you care about on a daily basis.

It enables anyone to track how the member of their group’s day is going through a gamified way. Created by leading mental health & design specialists, this easy-to-use app has been proven effective in chronic disease self-management and in lowering suicide rates.

Insight Timer

Also recommended by a friend, I was quite surprised that I didn’t hear about Insight Timer sooner.

Unlike many popular meditation apps available out there, they offer the largest free library of guided meditations on earth (over 95,000!) and the world’s most loved meditation Timer, for free.

If you’re new to meditation and unsure whether you should invest in an app to get you started, Insight Timer is a great app to have on your phone!

Workout for Women

I admit it – I don’t particularly like working out for the sake of working out. Plus, I get bored *very* easily.

And that’s exactly why Workout for Women works for me. Offering a vast range of workouts – from yoga & pilates to HIIT & kickboxing, I can easily create a mix of fun workouts and minimize boredom.

Another awesome thing about this app is that whenever we’re pressed for time (or having one of those days that we don’t want to work out), we have the option of squeezing a workout in just 7 minutes flat. What’s not to love?

PS: If you’re looking for an awesome playlist to workout to, be sure to check out ours here.

The Telomere Effect: A Revolutionary Approach to Living Younger, Healthier, Longer by Elizabeth Blackburn, PhD & Elissa Eppel, PhD

It’s not every day that you get to learn from a book that happens to be written by a Nobel Prize winner but that’s exactly what you get when you’ve got your hands on The Telomere Effect.

Elizabeth Blackburn, PhD, won her Nobel Peace Prize in Medicine for the discovery of how chromosomes are protected by telomeres and the enzyme telomerase. The Gift: 12 Lessons to Save Your Life by Dr. Edith Eger

I’ve first found out about Dr. Edith Eger & her remarkably inspiring story through an interview she had done with Marie Forleo.

Having heard how she was not only able to survive but also thrived post her gut-wrenching experience at a Holocaust camp, I immediately took a mental note to learn more about her & her life.

That’s when I discovered that she has written several books and jumped at the chance on reading The Gift. In it, she not only shared her own experiences, as a renowned psychologist, you can also find other inspiring (and highly relatable) stories shared by her clients.

More importantly, you’ll learn about the twelve most pervasive imprisoning beliefs that we all face —including fear, grief, anger, secrets, stress, guilt, shame, and avoidance—and the tools she has discovered to deal with these universal challenges.

Looking for more reads by Dr. Eger? I highly suggest for you to check out The Choice: Embrace the Possible.

In it, you’ll find plenty of ideas that’ll enable you to keep up a consistent self-care practice with relative ease.
