Like millions of others around the globe, I found the news of the untimely passing of Robin Williams back in 2014 to be a complete shock. Just hours upon hearing the news, I noticed that the media, both print and online, was buzzing with their speculations of the reasons to his suicide. Not long after, countless posts, forums, and discussions across the internet emerged dissecting every detail of his life especially on his long battle with depression.

Despite his tragic passing, I prefer to focus on celebrating his life and remembering a lifetime of precious moments where he, through his work, not only entertained and made us laugh, but also inspired us. He was an incredibly accomplished, multi-talented actor and a wonderful human being. With that, I’d like to share with you some of my favorite lines and quotes he uttered both on and off screen. Though he is no longer with us, he will always be remembered in our hearts and laughter. May he rest in peace.

[ In his own words ]

“You’re given only a little spark of madness, you mustn’t loose it”

“My children give me a great sense of wonder. Just to see them develop into these extraordinary human beings. And a favorite book as a child? Growing up, it was ‘The lion, The Witch & The Wardrobe” – I would read the whole C.S. Lewis series out loud to my kids. I was once reading to Zelda, and she said ‘don’t do any voices. Just read it as yourself.’ So I did, I just read it straight, and she said ‘that’s better.’”

“Spring is nature’s way of saying “Let’s Party!”

“Comedy is acting out optimism”

[ As John Keating in Dead Poets Society]

“No matter what people tell you, words and ideas can change the world.”

“But only in their dreams can men be truly free. It was always thus and always thus will be”

“Carpe. Hear it? (whispers) Carpe. Carpe Diem. Seize The Day, Boys. Make your life EXTRAORDINARY

[ As Patch Adams in Patch Adams]

“Our job is improving the quality of life, not just delaying death”

[ As Sean Maguire in Good Will Hunting]

“You don’t know about real loss because it only occurs when you’ve loved someone more than you love yourself. I doubt that you’ve ever dared to love anybody that much”

[ As Peter Pan in Hook]

“To live would be an awfully big adventure”

[As Mrs. Doubtfire in Mrs. Doubtfire]

“I admire that honesty, that’s a noble quality. Never lose that, because it often disappears with age, or entering politics.”

[As “Wizard” in August Rush]

“You know what music is? God’s little reminder that there’s something else besides us in this universe, a harmonic connection between all living beings, everywhere, even the stars.”
