We all have people we look up to growing up. Some may be those we adore in real life, such as our parents, grandparents, and/or older siblings — individuals who shape us through their presence, love, and guidance. Others, however, may be people we’ve never had the chance to meet, yet somehow, through their stories and the lives they’ve lived, inspire us from afar and become figures we aspire to be like.

For me, and for millions of girls and women around the world, one of those role models is the formidable Audrey Hepburn. Widely regarded as one of the most influential film and fashion icons of all time, she was so much more than just a Hollywood star or a symbol of elegance and beauty.

For me, and millions of girls and women around the globe, one of those role models is the formidable Ms. Audrey Hepburn. One of the world’s most influential film and fashion icons, she’s far more than just a Hollywood icon or a pretty face.

Born in Belgium, what many may not know about this beloved actress is the depth of her resilience and the kindness she carried within her. During her early years in Nazi-occupied Holland amid World War II, she faced unimaginable hardship and came close to starvation. These were not just passing struggles, but life-altering experiences that could have easily hardened her outlook on life.

Instead of letting her hardships harden her or made her bitter, she instead, became a deeply compassionate humanitarian. A UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, she dedicated much of her later years to humanitarian work, tirelessly advocating for and supporting children and families in some of the most disadvantaged parts of the world.

A true “girlboss” in every sense of the word, Ms. Hepburn embodied what it means to be beautiful inside and out. Her grace, strength, and generosity continue to inspire long after her passing, proving that true beauty lies not just in how we look, but in how we choose to live and give.
