“Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one’s lifetime.” — Mark Twain

I was bitten by the travel bug quite early in childhood and, as the years have gone by, this so-called disease has evolved into one that appears to be incurable.

Not that I mind it…

It all began with my father’s deep affinity for adventure. A self-proclaimed explorer, he was and still is to this day, innately curious about the world and, naturally, passed his passion for travel & adventure down to his children.

Growing up, whenever we found ourselves planning a family trip, Dad would stand firm and avoid travel tour packages like they were the plague. Instead, he would excitedly encourage us to get involved in choosing the activities and sights we wanted to experience. For that, I am forever grateful.

Since then, I’ve been fortunate enough to explore much of what our vast and beautiful world has to offer. Yet the more I see, the more I realize just how much of the world I have yet to experience.

I’ve also come to deeply appreciate how much travel has given me: an abundance of knowledge, perspective, wisdom, inspiration, and experiences that I would never have gained had I not been willing to step out of my comfort zone and discover the unknown.

A map, compass and a notebook

And perhaps that’s one of the greatest gifts of travel. When we slow down and truly immerse ourselves in a new place, rather than simply rushing from one attraction to the next, we give ourselves the opportunity to be present, curious, and open to experiences that can broaden our perspective.

Research exploring mindfulness during vacations has found benefits for wellbeing, mindfulness, and fatigue, suggesting that how we experience a journey may matter just as much as where we go.

Of course, travel isn’t always without its challenges. There are unfamiliar places, unexpected detours, and moments that can feel daunting. But I’ve found that the sheer joy and excitement of adventure almost always outweigh those fleeting fears.

Here, I’d like to share a selection of enchanting words of wisdom on travel that may just spark your inner wanderlust and have you day dreaming about your next adventure.

It’s a big world out there. Go explore it! Bon voyage! ✈️🌎
