“Food is our common ground, a universal experience” — James Beard

I consider myself supremely blessed to have grown up in a household where both of my parents never shied away from cooking, nor from enjoying the diverse, mouth-watering cuisine the world has to offer.

As a child, the kitchen and the dining room were the places where my family spent much of our treasured quality time. The kitchen was often filled with the delicious aromas of something simmering on the stove, while the dining table became the backdrop for countless conversations, stories, laughter, and of course, plenty of good food.

With all that time spent around food, it’s safe to say that my parents generously passed down their love and appreciation of food to my siblings and me. Fast forward to today, and it comes as no surprise that there are very few things I’m as passionate about as I am when it comes to food.

But as I’ve grown older, I’ve come to appreciate that our relationship with food can be about so much more than simply satisfying hunger.

Food can be a celebration, a comforting reminder of home, a delicious way to discover another culture, or a delightful excuse to gather around a table with the people we love. It can transport us to another place, evoke memories we had almost forgotten, and create new ones in an instant.

And perhaps that’s what makes food so wonderfully universal.

They say there are two kinds of people in this world: those who eat to live and those who live to eat. And as a self-professed foodie, I would definitely fall under the latter category.

I wholeheartedly believe that food has the power to transcend barriers between people and that some of the best connections are often made while we’re “breaking bread.”

Think about it: how many memorable conversations have happened over a shared meal? How many friendships have begun around a table? How many family traditions have been passed down through recipes, lovingly prepared dishes, and meals enjoyed together?

Food has a wonderful way of bringing us back to the simple pleasures of being human.

And perhaps that’s why food lovers tend to find so much joy in discovering a new dish, revisiting an old favorite, learning the story behind a traditional recipe, or simply sitting down to enjoy something delicious.

No matter where you’re from, if you consider yourself a fellow food lover, this oh-so-decadent collection of quotes was lovingly made for and dedicated to you.

So grab a cup of coffee or tea, settle in, and prepare to indulge in a little food for the soul. After all, as the great Julia Child so wonderfully put it: “People who love to eat are always the best people…”
